Alternative Payment Methods and Their Usage

With the rise of internet-based sales, e-commerce websites and applications have become a strong alternative to traditional methods, bringing their own payment systems and increasing the importance of alternative payment methods. Accelerated by the widespread use of smartphones and advancements in payment infrastructure, alternative payment methods are commonly used in e-commerce sites and shopping apps. In addition to credit card payments — one of the most preferred methods today — many alternatives have emerged, including shopping loans, real-time credit, digital wallets, QR code payments, instant bank transfers (Havale/EFT), and prepaid cards.

Credit Card

The most common and widely known payment method, the credit card allows consumers to pay in full or in installments for online purchases. Thanks to collaborations between shopping sites and banks, this method offers flexible payment options. You can work with various banks and join their campaigns to increase your sales. Additionally, by offering partial payment options, customers can complete payments using multiple cards in case of insufficient limits. You can work with both national and international banks, enabling sales abroad as well.

Cash on Delivery

Although not commonly used in e-commerce, cash payments are useful for customers who are accustomed to traditional channels. This method means the payment is made at the time of delivery for the remotely purchased product. Also known as cash on delivery, the payment is collected by the contracted courier company upon delivery.

Bank Transfer/EFT

Bank transfers, one of the traditional payment methods, have become faster and more secure when combined with digital tools, making them a frequent choice in e-commerce. As internet banking and mobile apps became widespread, transferring money via Havale/EFT has become much easier. This method allows customers who prefer not to use credit cards to make purchases using the funds in their bank accounts.

Mobile Payment

Developed for making payments without using a credit card, this alternative payment method is mostly used for donations, in-app purchases, and game downloads, yet it is one of the fast and secure payment methods used in many countries. In this method, which enables shopping with a mobile phone number, the cost of the product or service is added to the phone bill.

QR Code Payment

To make a payment via QR code, you need to download your bank’s mobile application. Then, by following the app’s instructions, you can scan the QR code with your phone’s camera and complete the payment quickly.

Digital Wallet

Still in the early stages of adoption, the digital wallet payment method allows users to complete purchases with a single click instead of entering card details every time. Also known as e-wallets, digital wallets securely store all card information (debit, credit, prepaid) and offer a fast and effortless payment experience during checkout.
